About Kilimanjaro International Airport — Aviation Hub

Kilimanjaro International Airport (IATA: JRO) serves as the primary international gateway to northern Tanzania, connecting the country directly to global hubs including Amsterdam (KLM), Doha (Qatar Airways), Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Addis Ababa. Located 46 km east of Arusha and 45 km west of Moshi, JRO sits at 896 metres elevation on the flat plains between Africa's two highest mountains — Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. The airport handled approximately 1.2 million passengers in 2023 according to Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) statistics, with international arrivals predominantly comprising safari tourists and Kilimanjaro trekkers. Domestic connections to Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and the Serengeti airstrips are operated by Precision Air, Air Tanzania, and Coastal Aviation. The airport underwent a major expansion in 2020, adding a new international terminal with enhanced capacity and improved ground transport links to both Arusha and Moshi.
