About Serengeti National Park
How to Get Here
Traveller Tips
-
Pack layers — nights are cold
Despite being near the equator, the altitude (1,500m+) makes nights cold (8–12°C). Bring a warm fleece and windproof jacket even in dry season. Mornings on game drives before 7am can be very cold. -
Book a fly-in safari for vast distances
The Serengeti is 14,763 km² — driving between zones takes 4+ hours on corrugated tracks. Internal charter flights (Coastal Aviation, Air Excel) connect Seronera, Kogatende, Grumeti, and Ndutu airstrips efficiently. -
Best time for the Great Migration
The river crossings at the Mara River happen July–October near Kogatende. Calving season (Jan–Feb) in the southern Serengeti offers equally dramatic viewing with predators following the herds.
