The Manyara Region in northern Tanzania contains two of East Africa's most rewarding national parks: Tarangire National Park, famous for its ancient baobab trees and largest elephant population in northern Tanzania, and Lake Manyara National Park, a narrow strip of forest and alkaline lake known for its tree-climbing lions, flamingo flocks, and exceptional bird diversity. The region sits at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment — one of the most dramatic landscapes in Africa — and is typically the first stop on the Northern Circuit safari route.
