Ruvuma

Ruvuma Region shares its southern border with Mozambique along the Ruvuma River and harbours Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) — the largest game reserve in Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering 54,600 km². Wild dog, lion, elephant, and buffalo populations in the Selous rank among Africa's highest in density. The Selous ecosystem supports boat safaris on the Rufiji River, fly-camping in pristine wilderness, and walking safaris that deliver unmatched immersion. Songea, the regional capital, was a centre of the Maji Maji Uprising (1905–1907) — Tanzania's most significant pre-independence resistance movement — whose memorial museum is essential for understanding the nation's history.
