Mbeya

Mbeya Region anchors the Southern Highlands corridor, a temperate, richly agricultural landscape ringed by the Mbeya, Poroto, and Livingstone mountain ranges. Mbeya city — Tanzania's fifth-largest — is a cool, pleasant highland town at 1,700 m elevation, known for its flowers and produce markets. Kitulo National Park, dubbed 'the Serengeti of wildflowers,' erupts in a kaleidoscope of over 350 ground orchid and montane wildflower species during the December–February rains — a spectacle now on the bucket list of botanical travellers worldwide. The Poroto Ridge offers spectacular hiking through crater lakes and hot springs, while the TAZARA railway cuts dramatically through this landscape on its 1,860 km journey linking Dar es Salaam to Zambia's Kapiri Mposhi.
