Dodoma

Dodoma is Tanzania's official capital city and the administrative heart of the nation since the government's relocation from Dar es Salaam began in the 1970s. Situated in the geographic centre of the country on a high semi-arid plateau, Dodoma is synonymous with Tanzania's emerging wine industry — the surrounding Dodoma wine estates produce the only commercial wines in East Africa, with the Chenin Blanc grape thriving in the region's well-drained soils. The Parliament building, Bunge, and the ruling CCM party headquarters make this a city of political significance. Kondoa Rock-Art Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage property featuring paintings dating back over 2,000 years, lie within the broader Dodoma region, preserving the spiritual world of Tanzania's earliest Sandawe inhabitants.
